Can stress be good for us?

Blue Edge were commissioned to conduct research into the effects of stress and pressure on performance at work after indicative research findings revealed that men and women were struggling to meet their work and personal commitments and were increasingly suffering from the physical symptoms of stress.

One in every two people who felt stress due to lack of time suffered from symptoms such as sleeplessness, headaches, muscle pain and nervousness. However, delving deeper into the issue has highlighted that although such effects of stress are prevalent, there are some positive benefits, which can be harnessed to improve productivity.

These include:

  • 49% of those questioned said they work most effectively when under a certain amount of pressure
  • 47% said they focus better on what needs to be done when stressed
  • 83% said the quality of work produced was average to high when under pressure most people tend to rate job satisfaction
  • Quality of results and speed of working positively when working under pressure
