Culture Change
Cultural Assessment forms the start of any culture change programme, but this is only the beginning. Following on from Blue Edge's recommendations at the diagnostic stage, many of our clients retain us to work with them as culture change advisors.
Blue Edge uses a staged approach to managing people through culture change, covering each of the three arenas of change: Head, Heart and Hands. Our experience has shown that many organisations miss out on one or more of these elements when managing a change programme. However, successful change requires all three elements to be addressed:
- Head - building the business case for culture change so that people accept the need to do things differently
- Heart - engaging people emotionally in the culture change process: answering the questions 'What's in it for me?' and 'What does it mean for me?'
- Hands - providing employees with the skills that they need to make the culture change happen
When planning a culture change progamme, we typically include the following elements:
- Diagnostic phase - for more on this, see our page on Cultural Assessment
- Communications - to ensure that feedback loops are included and that a clear communication plan is followed
- Change leadership workshops - appointment of change champions throughout the business ensure that leaders are able to manage change effectively
- Change workshops- change management training to ensure that staff are fully prepared for change
- Embedding through HRM systems - key people management systems, e.g. appraisal/performance management, selection, promotion, reward, need to be consistent with the new culture
- Continuous improvement - celebration of change to embed initial changes and continued improvement driven by employees.
Our clients in this area include: PSNI, Royal Air Force, Biwater, Orange, Crossrail and many others.
What makes Blue Edge's approach to culture change different?
- We understand and apply the psychology of change - successful culture change can only be achieved through the Head, Heart and Hands approach - where people move through denial to exploration and acceptance in an expedient way
- Workable solutions combined with scientific rigour: with substantial psychology and business experience we have a unique combination of theoretical and practical appreciation of human factors in organisations
- Delivering measurable and tangible business benefits: our focus is on delivering clearly defined outputs that are aligned to your business strategy and goals
- A genuinely flexible, partnership approach: a commitment to partnership working is embedded in the Blue Edge culture. We value and practice openness, flexibility and win-win collaborative working.
